Conference dinner

On Saturday evening (13th August) there will be a conference dinner. This is not automatically included in your conference ticket; you must have selected it when you registered (even if the price of it was included in your ticket). Please check your invoice to confirm there is a "dinner ticket" item, or your conference badge (there will be a knife and fork/cutlery icon, or a silver dot). If you specified a dietary requirement, your table number will be written on your badge - please sit at this table. And please bring your badge!

The meal includes non-alcoholic drinks only. Alcohol will be available for purchase - cash only; there are no credit card or EFTPOS facilities. (There are ATMs in the conference venue.)

The conference Code of Conduct applies at the dinner.

Venue

The dinner is at the Bayview Eden Hotel. Address: 6 Queens Road, Melbourne. (Between St Kilda Road and Albert Park.) It's about 3km from MCEC (the conference venue).

Speaker

We are thrilled that while we enjoy a wonderful dinner, we will also have the opportunity to hear from Solange Cunin of Quberider, talking about Teaching Python from Outer Space!

Transport

Buses will be provided to transport you to and from the conference venue. Buses will leave from MCEC at 6:00 and ~6:30; volunteers will point the way to the bus departure point. They will then leave from the dinner venue to return to MCEC at 10:15 and ~10:45.

You are also welcome to take public transport, cycle or enjoy a brisk walk! Bayview Eden Melbourne is located less than a 3 minute walk to tram stop number 22, located on St Kilda Road which runs directly to and from the city. Tram numbers 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 will take you to and from Flinders Street Station. This is marked as option #2 in the below map, and is our recommended route:

dinner transport options

Option #1 is possible if you catch tram 109 on Clarendon St directly out front of the Exhibition Centre building. You take this tram into the CBD and change at Swanston St to one of the trams mentioned above to go along St Kilda Rd. The 109 trams are less frequent so will get packed if we all try to use them. Option #3 is to catch the 55 tram which goes only as far as the end of Domain Rd next to the gardens - so you'll have to walk from there to the venue, or catch one of the above trams further along St Kilda Rd.

If you will need alternative transport such as a taxi for accessibility reasons, please contact us to let us know in advance. The venue itself is wheelchair accessible.

Parking at the venue is limited. Access the car park via Queens Lane, directly behind the hotel.
